Healthy Brain, Healthy Life
June isn’t just the start of summer; it’s also Alzheimer’s and Brain Awareness Month. It’s time to check in with ourselves and our loved ones about brain health and take a few simple steps to help keep our minds sharp.
We know Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia affect millions of people and their families. It’s a tough reality, but there are things we can do every day that may help protect our brains. That starts with what we eat and how we live.
Know the Signs
First, a quick refresher on symptoms to keep an eye on:
- Memory loss that disrupts daily life
- Trouble planning or solving problems
- Confusion with time or place
- Difficulty with words or conversations
- Mood or personality changes
These changes can happen gradually, so it’s important to talk to a doctor if something feels “off” as early detection can make a difference.

Let’s Talk Prevention
There’s no magic solution, but science shows us that some lifestyle habits can help lower the risk or delay the onset of Alzheimer’s.
- Stay active: Walking, stretching or dancing keeps both the body and mind strong.
- Social connection: Spending time with others, laughing and staying engaged are great for emotional and mental well-being.
- Keep learning: Try a new hobby, play games, or read something new. The brain loves challenges.
- Sleep well: Receiving quality sleep helps the brain clear toxins and stay focused during the day.
- Eat smart: And that brings us to one of our favorite topics: food!
Food for Thought—Literally
Certain foods have been linked to better brain health. You’ve probably heard of Mediterranean and MIND diets. Both styles are rich in veggies, whole grains, lean proteins and healthy fats.
