Rise and Shine at Solstice

A good morning routine is essential to starting the day off right. Solstice believes wellness of the mind, body and spirit is an active process, which means it takes time and intention. It can be tempting to hit the snooze button and stay in bed, but intentionally creating a morning routine can set the tone for the rest of the day and improve your overall health and well-being. 

Here are a few tips to help you create a morning ritual that makes you want to rise and shine each day.  

Wake up at a set time each day. 
Keeping a consistent sleep schedule can benefit seniors who struggle to fall asleep or stay asleep. Figuring out the best bedtime and wake-up time can be a trial-and-error process; but creating a daily schedule can lead to better sleep and, in turn, better health. 

Eat a nutritious breakfast. 
After sleeping all night, rehydrate your body with a full glass of water before enjoying a nutritious breakfast, or if you’re not a breakfast person, maybe a cup of coffee or tea. It’s a common myth that breakfast is the most important meal of the day and makes your metabolism faster. However, if you do enjoy having breakfast each morning, make sure it’s filled with vitamins, protein and healthy carbs. A few of our favorites are a vegetable omelet, avocado toast, a smoothie, oatmeal with fruit, tofu scramble and yogurt. 

Stretch and move your body. 
Don’t wait until the day goes by to get up and moving. Even a few light stretches can help improve blood flow, flexibility, muscle strength and posture. Stretching, going on a walk and light yoga are great for the mind, too. Get on your feet, take a breath of fresh air, and feel energized all day. 

Read, write in a journal, or do a crossword puzzle – or all three! 
Exercise the mind by reading a chapter of your favorite book, flipping through a magazine or newspaper, journaling, or tackling a fun crossword puzzle. 

Make a list of goals for the day. 
Creating an itemized list of goals and tasks can help you tackle the demands of your day. Making a list and checking off items as the day goes on can give you a sense of purpose, productivity and motivation. Don’t just include chores; add in activities, creative tasks, calling a loved one, Vibrant Life® adventures or even watching an episode of your favorite TV show.
